Experience As a former member of the United States Marine Corps Band, where he served as Section leader, featured soloist and clinician. Mr. Stone is in his 15th year of teaching. Prior to serving at Tanner, he was the assistant band director at Cedar Ridge Middle School in Decatur, Alabama. |
Bio
Vechiel Stone is currently in his seventh year as the director of bands at Tanner High School in Tanner, Alabama. He attended The University of North Alabama where he earned a Bachelor of Music in performance and a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He then served as a member of the United States Marine Band at MCRD Parris Island, SC as trumpet section leader, clinician, and featured soloist. Mr. Stone then returned to the University of North Alabama where he earned a Master of Music in Education and served as Principal Trumpet with the Shoals Symphony. Mr. Stone is in his 15th year of education. Prior to joining us at Tanner, he was the assistant band director at Cedar Ridge Middle School in Decatur, Alabama. While at Cedar Ridge he helped lead the program to such accomplishments as consistent superior ratings at the district and state level. During his second year at Tanner, Mr. Stone guided the band program to its first superior ratings at the Alabama Bandmasters Association's Music Performance Assessment(MPA) and in 2014 they received the rating of Superior with Distinction(1st and only Band program in Limestone County). The Tanner program continues to achieve consecutive Superior ratings at all Competitions. Currently, Mr. Stone has served as the conductor of the Decatur Youth Symphony's Brass Ensemble. His professional affiliations include the Music Educators National Conference, Alabama Bandmasters Association, International Trumpet Guild, Band of America's Few, The Brass Band of Huntsville, Orchestra Sul Ponticello of Decatur, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. Additionally, Mr. Stone has performed on numerous movie soundtracks, professional recordings and is a regular with the Russellville based R&B group "Rewind of the Shoals". Mr. Stone continues to perform and provides private instrumental instruction. |
