The Tanner Bands work diligently in preparation to perform throughout the year on several occasions.
The marching band performs at all Tanner High football games, they participate in the Limestone County Night of Bands each year and compete in various marching competitions throughout the fall season earning several trophies in recognition of their accomplishments.
The intermediate band joins the marching band for all home football games. They participate in the stands during the game and are involved with the halftime event for the annual Homecoming game. This offers the intermediate band students a glimpse at what the band program has to offer them in the coming years.
During the year our students participate in a number of musical activities such as, Honor Bands, All-State, local community bands, youth symphonies, and Solo & Ensemble Festivals.
All the Tanner bands perform for the local communities, retirement communities and for the Tanner students.
The concert and intermediate bands combine to perform for the Tanner High Veteran's Day Program and the Veteran's Day Parade in Athens in November. This year they end their marching season by participating in the annual Athens Christmas parade, our annual Christmas Concert as well as supporting our football team as the 2012 Alabama 2A State Championship in Auburn, as well as the 2013 Alabama 2A State Championship Basketball team. The Band also plays for the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics which are hosted at Tanner High each April.
The concert band competes in what use to be called State Contest now know as Music Performance Assessment (MPA) every spring. 2013 is the first time in school history that the band received All Superior ratings on stage for an Overall SUPERIOR!
Each Spring, in April, the marching/concert band is involved in a band competition outside the local area. The band has been to several locations in past years: Disney World in Orlando, Panama City, FL, New Orleans, LA, Gatlinburg, TN, Myrtle Beach, SC, Cincinnati, OH. Atlanta, GA and most recently Chicago, Il. The trip destination is determined each year through collaboration between the senior class and the band director. The venue of competition varies as well. Depending on the trip site, the concert band may perform in competition, where, at other destinations, the marching band may be eligible to perform. The bands have earned numerous awards and trophies through these competitions each year.
